To operate a US glider with an experimental certificate of airworthiness in Canada, you must first receive approval from Transport Canada.  The process is called Validation of a Foreign Flight Authority

 

To obtain approval, follow the steps below:

  1.  Pay the $100 fee online at:
    1. https://wwwapps.tc.gc.ca/Comm/5/OPS
    2. Select English
    3. Use the drop down menu from "what would you like to pay for?" and select  flight authority or flight permit
    4. In the gray box, the 4th item shows this can be used for Validation of a flight authority, scroll to the bottom of the page and select the blue Get Started! button.
    5. Select the
    6. Ignore the ATS Reference number section and then select paying for yourself and next
    7. On the next several pages, you will enter your details such as name and address and finally come to a payment page where you may enter your credit card details to pay.
    8. After paying, a page will load with the payment details, including a receipt number.  Copy this number, you need it in the next steps.  You will also receive an email with the receipt number.

  3. Now that you have the receipt number, compose an email and send it to: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
    1. the email subject line should be: Validation of foreign flight authority (N-number)
    2. in the email request permission to fly your US registered experimental glider at the 2026 Canadian National Gliding Championship in Rockton, ON, from 27 July - 7 Aug 2026.  Adjust the dates if you would like to arrive earlier or stay later.  Be sure to include your receipt number from your previous payment in the body of the email.
    3. Attach to the email scanned PDF copies of your Certificate of Registration, special Certificate of Airworthiness, and your program letter. You may also wish to include a PDF copy of your payment receipt.
  4. You should receive an email from Transport Canada acknowledging receipt of your email and then about 2  weeks later another email with your approval letter attached.
